The new educational lesson for students of 1 - 6 forms about flax, since growing up to becoming a textile.

 

 

During the lesson students will acquaint with weaving, washing, ironing. Families with children also are welcome to spend spring weekends in museum with this lesson.

 Arranging Tiles

This lesson for 3rd-9th form students.

 

 

Students will introduce them to the ways people used to heat up their houses 300 years ago. They will learn how a stove is made and how they used to be decorated.

Old Things Can Speak

 For people of all ages

In this session for people of all ages, participants will learn about ancient clothing, shoes and other household items. The goal of the class is to help participants to study, touch and use the exhibits.

How  Was Paper Made?

The lesson is aimed primarily at 3rd-5th and 6th-12th formers.

It is hard to imagine life without paper. If you want to find out how it appeared and how it was first made, come to this class and unveil the mystery. Everyone will play the role of a craftsman and learn the subtleties and history of papermaking. Participants will make a piece of paper themselves.

 Secret Schools

At students of various ages.

This class is targeted at students of various ages and will take them 100 years back in time to when Lithuanian schools were forbidden. Students will see what objects and tools were used in those times, what teachers looked like and what students read and wrote. Participants will also experience a common punishment – kneeling on peas – and much more.

Mint A Coin Yourself

This class for 1st-5th and 6th-12th forms students

Students will introduce the history of coins, revealing some of the oldest Lithuanian coins exhibited in the museum. The most exciting part of the class is making a special Biržai town anniversary coin.

From Flax To Dress

For 1st-6th form schoolchildren

This class for 1st-6th form schoolchildren will reveal how flax was discovered and how it has been used throughout the centuries. Special attention is given to the meaning of flax in Lithuania. Participants will discover the working tools once used to process flax and watch a film about “flaxship”. At the end of the class, students will be given special certificates.

The Ceramics

This class is targeted at students of various ages and adults.

During the program you will be acqainted with one of the oldest crafts - ceramics - and will make by yourself an amazing ceramic souvenir decorated by Biržai castle sight and a cout of arms of Duke Radvila. Your souvenirs will be annealed get back to you.

Biržai during North war

 

 

During the class students will collect information and make presentations about the main features of the Biržai history of 16 and 17 c. They will acquaint with activities of Duke's Radziwill familyand will faind information about the warriors of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania - hussars.

Žaldokas Beer

The program is only for adults and should be booked in advance.

The Sėla Biržai Regional Museum offers a visit to a unique exhibition, Old Ways of Brewing, and the adult education class “Žaldokas Beer”. Participants will be introduced to accessories used in the ancient brewing process, the technologies of home brewing – and the hospitable traditions of the people of Aukštaitija. Sitting at a white-cloth table you will sample Biržai beer, cheese and bread, and listen to a folklore ensemble that promotes the local region’s musical traditions by playing “supper songs” (songs sung while treating guests).

There’s also an opportunity to try out local wind instruments, horns, singing and dancing.

OTHER PROGRAMS

PROGRAM IN THE AREA OF KARST LAKELETS OF KIRKILAI

Artisans of the community of the village Kirkilai present old crafts of the region of Biržai from May to October. Here, you will see a wide range of original craftsman products, you will have opportunity to participate in the manufacturing process, you may purchase souvenirs, wattled, crocheted, knitted, sculptured, wrought or whatever you might like, and you should savour pancakes of full-grain wheat flour, fish soup, herb tea or other dishes prepared according to old recipes by women of Kirkilai. Musicians will entertain you with folk music. Voluble local people will tell you various stories about their village, sinkholes that never stop appearing unexpectedly, and show a collection at their museum.

The Program is available between May and November.

PROGRAM ‘BUVA MAŽA GRITELYTE’  IN THE RURAL TOURISM HOMESTEAD OF A. PODĖNIENĖ

After touring the estate located near Biržai, you will have opportunity to savour dumplings prepared according to a recipe of the Count Tiškevičius. You will hear a funny story about spoons, and a number of anecdotes about somewhat peculiar food habits of landlords and villagers. You will also taste the beer of Biržai.
