 From a grain to a song: Biržai tradition and hospitality"   LV  EN  RU  

This programme is for adults only and it must be booked in advance.

The museum offers a unique glimpse at the beer traditions in Biržai. Visitors will be able to savor local beer produced at the oldest brewery in town. To round off the experience, beer will be accompanied by local food. During the program, visitors will be acquainted with the traditional beer making process and tools, as well as local customs. Visitors will be entertained by a  folklore ensemble from Aukštaitija region and they can expect to take part in their lively performance.

Birzai during the Great Northern War*   EN  RU

The workshop is for ages: 16-19, adults

 

 

Get acquainted with the local history! How did people of Biržai live during the Great Northern War? How did they fight? Who are the hussars? Who were the Radziwiłł family? Learn this and much more in one of our most interactive educational programs.

How Was Paper Made? EN  RU

The workshop is for ages: 10-19

It is hard to imagine life without paper. Where does it originate from, when was it first made, what were the techniques? These are just some of the mysteries you will uncover during this program. Moreover, you will get to do it yourself.

"Secret School" *      EN  RU

The workshop is for ages: 12–16

Could you imagine Lithuanian schools without Lithuanian language? A century ago Lithuanian was banned in schools and students were forced to speak another language. What did these schools look like? What did the children learn about? And were they still speaking their own language in secrecy? Find out!

OTHER PROGRAMS

PROGRAM IN THE AREA OF KARST LAKELETS OF KIRKILAI

Artisans of the community of the village Kirkilai present old crafts of the region of Biržai from May to October. Here, you will see a wide range of original craftsman products, you will have opportunity to participate in the manufacturing process, you may purchase souvenirs, wattled, crocheted, knitted, sculptured, wrought or whatever you might like, and you should savour pancakes of full-grain wheat flour, fish soup, herb tea or other dishes prepared according to old recipes by women of Kirkilai. Musicians will entertain you with folk music. Voluble local people will tell you various stories about their village, sinkholes that never stop appearing unexpectedly, and show a collection at their museum.

The Program is available between May and November.

PROGRAM ‘BUVA MAŽA GRITELYTE’  IN THE RURAL TOURISM HOMESTEAD OF A. PODĖNIENĖ

After touring the estate located near Biržai, you will have opportunity to savour dumplings prepared according to a recipe of the Count Tiškevičius. You will hear a funny story about spoons, and a number of anecdotes about somewhat peculiar food habits of landlords and villagers. You will also taste the beer of Biržai.
